Leatherhead in the Great War

No part of Britain could avoid the impact of the 1914 Great War and the Surrey town of Leatherhead was no exception. Over 400 local men joined the fight for king and country, while those left behind lived in the shadow of Zeppelin raids and the reality of food, labour, and fuel shortages. Adding to the misery was the death of local soldiers at the Battle of Delville Wood. When the war ended in 1918 Leatherhead was changed forever.
