The Fishing Game

Widow Elizabeth Finch is looking for “Mr Right” and the Really Elite Friends Singles Club seems as good a place as any to find him. Elizabeth thinks she’s struck gold when she meets handsome, middle aged bachelor Christopher. But is Christopher just a bit too good to be true and what is the “disgraceful” past Elizabeth is trying to hide? Allegra Field’s delightful tale of love and adultery, with a hint of murder, is a hilarious take on over fifties dating.

AINT MISBEHAVING

A singles club for “discerning professional men and women” and a widowed middle-aged woman with a “wicked” past looking for Mr Right. Surely Elizabeth Finch is on the right track when she joins the Really Elite Friends Singles Club? Hmmm! Even though club secretary and all-round gossip Angie denies it’s a “leg-over club” that’s hard to believe given the amount of adultery, bedroom athletics, and love triangles going on. But when Elizabeth drops in on the village pub and bumps into smooth talking American newcomer Christopher, true love is almost certainly on the cards. Smitten by his “Aegean blue eyes”“mane of greying hair swept Byronically back” and “Delphic charioteer” physique, Liz is head over heels, but is Christopher all that he seems and why is there a faint stench of murder in the air?

The Fishing Game by journalist Allegra Field, is a wonderfully witty look at over fifties dating and the sweltering passions behind the lace curtains and Queen Anne houses of an English picture postcard village. The Really Elite friends with their deliciously disgraceful behaviour are the saucy antidote to country fairs, cream teas at the vicarage, and cricket on the village green. Whoever said you couldn’t have murderously good fun when you’re middle aged and single, didn’t have a clue what they were talking about!
