Virginia McKenna

Virginia McKenna is an English stage and screen actress, author and wildlife campaigner. She is best known for the films Born Free, A Town Like Alice (for which she earned a BAFTA) and Ring of Bright Water. In 1979 she won an Olivier Award for Best Actress in the stage musical of The King and I, where she played opposite Yul Brynner. Her work as an animal welfare campaigner has taken over from acting and in 2004 she was awarded the OBE for services to wildlife and the arts.
