Don’t Touch My Hair!

Wherever Aria goes, someone wants to touch her hair. In the street, strangers reach for her fluffy curls, and even under the sea, in the jungle, and in space. She’s chased by a mermaid, monkeys, and poked at by aliens…until, finally, Aria has had enough! This humorous picture book addresses the ongoing national conversation about strangers touching the hair of black people. It also contributes to the debate around personal boundaries for children as Aria explains that her hair should not be touched without asking her permission. Commercial, imaginative, and fun, Don’t Touch My Hair! can teach young readers about personal boundaries, the importance of asking for permission, and that it’s all right to be told “No”.

“This book is honest, real, entertaining, and very funny. It’s not just important for young black girls to read it, but other children as well. All kids should be taught about boundaries, how to set them, and what’s it’s right/wrong to do in social settings.”
