The Mad Women’s Ball

1880s Paris is in thrall to Doctor Charcot and his displays of hypnotism on women seen by the outside world as mad or hysterical. In fact, the women are abandoned wives or strong-willed daughters whose presence has made them an embarrassment to their families. Their one glimmer of hope is the so-called Mad Women’s Ball, held every year at the hospital and which for the Parisian elite is the highlight of the social season. Geneviève, a senior nurse at the hospital, is a firm believer in Doctor Charcot and his new science having turned her back on religion after the childhood death of her sister. Everything changes when she meets 19-year-old Eugénie, the daughter of a bourgeois family. The girl is carrying a secret, and she needs Geneviève’s help. How will their fates collide on the night of the Mad Women’s Ball?
