Cpt George Piper Boughton

George Piper Boughton was born in 1869 in Sunderland, England. He went to sea at the age of 12 and after a lengthy apprenticeship became a Master Mariner, Captain and eventually a member of the Marine Board for London and Superintendent to the Shipping Federation of Britain. He wrote about his experiences in his memoir Seafaring, which was republished by his grandson George S Boughton in 2014. George Piper Boughton died in 1940 at the age of 70.
