To all intents and purposes the village of Skelbrooke seems like an idyllic, peaceful place to live and John Newton can’t believe his luck. He has a new home, a successful career writing true crime books, and a delightful family to share it with. Why should he waste a single moment’s thought on Necropolis, the large cemetery nearby, or what might or might not be lurking there? Then the anonymous letters start arriving demanding trivial things – chocolate, toys, beer – and John doesn’t take any notice until he finds out the hard way that he really needs to take them seriously because Skelbrooke is harbouring a terrible secret. The village is haunted by a demon known as “Baby Bones” which surfaces once every 70 years to make demands…and this time it wants John’s daughter!
