BRAVE NEW WORLDS

Brace yourself for some thought provoking science fiction from the imagination of author George S Boughton, founder of GB Publishing Org.

An international team of scientific researchers is assigned to live and work in the newly built Near Earth Territories. The vessels they inhabit are more spacious than the world’s largest ocean liners and exemplify the best of what the earth has to offer, including areas as green as any English county.

The mission is headed by the brilliant Professor Mark Madison and his enigmatic Artificial Intelligence assistant FayWell. In this (almost) home from home, Doctors Mei Sei Ling and Steve Nord are the professional backbone while Sashia, a paraplegic and the least qualified of the scientists, is thrown into the role of everyone’s emotional bedrock. They’ll need all the support they can get as forces beyond their control work to reshape the future.

The team are researching the natural disasters that began at the turn of the millennium and which threaten to trigger a recurrence of the event that caused the Cretaceous extinction. Time is working against them. Multiple climate change disasters trigger a refugee crisis and mass population movements, causing global tensions and civil war. The conflict eventually spills out beyond earth’s parameters with self-styled warlords escalating a battle with UN Security forces in space. The Territories fleet, escorted by the biggest and best US navy battle carrier, becomes a primary target.

As mankind outgrows the home planet, the Territories Fleet is its last remaining hope. Operated predominantly by designer babies now in young adulthood and made to live permanently in space, the fleet marks the beginning of a new branch of humans transformed from terrestrial to extra-terrestrial beings.

This ambitious novel depicts a future of extreme uncertainty, where tough choices are made in the knowledge that humanity’s time has all but run out. By focusing on the contemporary themes of today namely climate change, water shortages, food security and mass population displacements, Boughton is sounding a warning bell for a future where only the fittest can expect to survive.
