Brad Snyder & Tom Sileo

Fire in My Eyes: An American Warrior’s Journey from Being Blinded on the Battlefield to Gold Medal Victory

Brad Snyder had the world at his feet. After graduating from the US Naval Academy, Brad earned a distinction as the swim team captain and during his senior year – as Lieutenant Snyder – he served in Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer with SEAL Team Ten. However, Snyder’s world changed dramatically when a massive blast from an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blinded him. But a year after losing his sight, he was on a podium at the 2012 London Paralympic Games with a gold medal around his neck and thousands of people applauding. Four years later at the Rio Paralympic Games, Snyder won three gold medals and one silver, and even broke a world record that had held up for three decades. Another gold was added to the tally when Snyder swam to victory in the paratriathlon PTVI at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
