Icarus

Icarus Gallagher is a thief who steals priceless works of art that he replaces with forgeries painted by his father. For years the duo has targeted the wealthy Mr. Black because he was involved in the death of Icarus’s mother. Icarus plays by his own set of rules: don’t get caught; don’t let anyone get close; don’t let anyone touch you. But one night he breaks them! Helios, Mr. Black’s mysterious son, lives under house arrest in the family mansion. Instead of turning Icarus over to the authorities, Helios offers him a dangerous deal…a friendship that breaks the rules. At first Icarus is reluctant to accept although his feelings gradually change. Both men uncover the gilded cage that for years has trapped their families. Icarus wants nothing more than to escape, but his father’s desire for revenge shows no signs of abating. Icarus must choose between freedom or the boy he loves. Can he have both, or will he fall?

“In true K. Ancrum style, this novel is written in an unconventional, original way. It is a reimagining of the Icarus myth that’s emotional, full of trauma, and downright poetic. It’s also a love letter to healing from trauma and human connection. As the novel progresses with its quick-fire style, more secrets are revealed and the tensions between the characters grow. This is a story that really gets beneath the skin. The combination of romance and thriller, coloured by mythology and mystery between the two families, keeps the reader in suspense the whole time. I highly recommend this novel to fans of The Wicker King and The Song of Achilles.”
