Invisible Man

‘I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me.’ Defeated and slighted by a country which treats him as a non-being, the ‘invisible man’ retreats into an underground cell, where he smokes, drinks, listens to jazz music, and recounts his search for identity in white society: first as an optimistic student in the Deep South, then in the north with the black activist group The Brotherhood, and finally, in the Harlem race riots. The searing prose in this modern American classic, explains how “the invisible man” came to live underground.

“This is an exploration of race in 1950s America. The main character is compelling and relatable, as well as uniquely himself. It’s a bit of a hard read, but it’s worth it, as an indellible part of Black History.”
