Kafka and the Doll

Inspired by a true story, this book recounts an extraordinary act of kindness from one of the world’s most iconic and bewildering writers. In 1923, novelist Franz Kafka met a distraught little girl in the park who was upset after losing her doll. Kafka told her the doll wasn’t lost but was travelling around the world having grand adventures. To calm and reassure her, Kafka spent the next few weeks delivering letters to the girl “written” by the doll. Kafka may be known for his dark and brooding tales, but this story portrays a playful side of the man. It encourages us to live life to the fullest and tell stories to children, for stories are not lies; they are pure magic.
