Lucas at the Paralympics

Physically disabled friends Lucas and Eddie visit the Paralympic Games where they cheer on blind and physically challenged athletes competing in a variety of events including running, swimming, sitting volleyball, para-archery, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair basketball. This isn’t just a story about two friends watching one of the world’s biggest and greatest sporting events, it’s also a chance for readers to familiarise themselves with some of the rules: for example, blind/partially sighted runners wear blindfolds so that none of the competitors has an unfair advantage. Also, all blind runners are tethered to guides.

“Author and teacher Igor Pohl, who lost the use of his legs after a spinal accident, is a passionate advocate for raising awareness of physical disability. The book achieves that objective as it encourages children to ask questions and find the answers.”
