Murmuration

This book in general is one big mystery – small town in America, where everything seems perfect, everyone seems happy, and two men falling in love. This utopia is slowly starting to break apart when the main character starts to find holes in reality and forgets things… and we find that under the happy surface there’s a lot of darkness bubbling.

UTOPIA BUT NOT QUITE

Murmuration by TJ Klune is one of the best and most unique books I have read of late.

In general, I always love anything TJ Klune writes because they have a unique way of writing that makes me feel all the feelings and get really invested into the story.

I rarely find such a delicious combination of fluffy romance and dark mystery combined in one. I smiled a lot for the first part of the book, but toward the end, you will cry. It’s truly an amazing in-depth look at what makes a place truly good and what reality even is. What identity and personality is. What is possible when you remove all the ‘bad stuff’.

With every new question posed, I kept developing theories that were both realistic and paranormal, and I didn’t know what the truth was until the end (although I did suspect). So this isn’t only a story about two lovely men falling in love and a happy little town folk helping them along. Oh no. It’s about the human brain, what it does when reality is challenged, and about what happens when we try to control reality and humanity itself. What love is. What anger is. What it all means. As you read, you will question yourself, you will question the main character, and you will question everything.

Truly a fantastic read for anyone who loves queer romance, mystery, and psychological thrillers. It almost reminds me of a Stephen King book, but without the truly horrific elements. It also reminds me of It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, but not quite. It’s unique, so I’ll stop the comparisons.

Best book I’ve read this year. Amazing ending. Five very deserved stars.
