Old Wounds

Erin and Max are two trans kids trying to reach California. Max is desperate to complete their transition while Erin is longing to understand why she’s on the trip in the first place, especially after Max broke up with her two years earlier. When the couple find themselves stranded in the creepy woods of rural middle-America, their problems suddenly become much bigger. To begin with there’s the creature which, according to legend, feeds on girls after hunting them through the shadows. Then there are the locals searching for a female sacrifice. If Max and Erin want to live to see the sunrise, they’ll have to work together and stop running from their attackers, from each other, and ultimately from themselves.

“A very tender, very powerful, and very masterfully written book. This gripping queer debut is a lovely exploration of gender, sacrifice, and the real monsters we’re running away from.”
