Carla Rachel Sameth

One Day on the Gold Line: A Memoir in Essays

Carla Rachel Sameth is a Jewish queer single mother of a multiracial (Black and Jewish) son. This is a her memoir. Her dream of creating a “perfect” family and being a good mother is constantly thrown by circumstance and choices out of her control. Racism, miscarriages, financial hardships, her son’s struggle with drugs, social injustice… are all terrible tests of her strength. We cheer for her as we swing from crisis to crisis, sometimes armed with dark humor and always finding unconditional love and devotion in her life story.
