Stephanie Millward

Paying the Price

At 17 Stephanie Millward’s dream of representing Britain in competitive swimming was dealt a major blow when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The timing was particularly cruel because Stephanie was on the verge of being selected for the able-bodied national swimming squad. But ten years later in 2008, she returned as a Team GB swimmer at the Beijing Paralympic Games. In 2012 at the London Paralympic Games, Stephanie won four silver medals and one bronze, building on her previous success as a multiple IPC World & European champion. At the Rio Paralympic games in 2016, she went one stage better with two gold medals, one silver, and a bronze. Paying the Price is Stephanie’s honest account of how she struggled with her illness but found the strength to achieve her goals and inspire others with her courage. In the 2017 New Years Honours, Stephanie Millward was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to swimming.
