Spill Simmer Falter Wither

At fifty-seven Ray is a reclusive misfit who’s “too old for starting over, too young for giving up”. He finds his soulmate in One Eye, a vicious “bugger” of a dog that has run away from his keepers and who happens to be a good ratter. Accustomed to being alone, unloved, and cast out, Ray and One Eye find a strange companionship (of sorts) that intensifies as spring turns to summer. However, an act of savagery forces them to abandon the precarious life they have established and take to the road.
