The Barber from Palermo

Sicily, 1866: Ten-year-old Giacomo and his family escape to the vineyards after witnessing the brutality of a revolutionary uprising.  At the age of sixteen, Giacomo is given a one-way ticket to America. During the journey, the youngster faces threats and illnesses but also discovers a mysterious key which he hides in a cherished plastic statue of the Virgin Mary. On arriving in New York Giacomo – now known as James – gets entangled in gang wars, secrets surrounding a chalice full of stolen jewels, and a murder he didn’t commit. By 1901, James has not only worked out where the jewels are hidden but who is after them. His life is about to come full circle as the past and the present come together.
