The Gallery of Unfinished Girls

Mercedes is an artist, or thinks she could be, even though she hasn’t painted anything in a while. Her grandmother is in a coma, she’s in love with her best friend, and things are generally getting on top of  her. But despite her creative block, art starts to flow from Mercedes in strange ways. A piano appears on her front lawn one morning and a mysterious new neighbour invites her to paint at their Estate. Eventually, Mercedes finds a way to paint like she never has before. Unfortunately, she is not allowed to take anything out of the Estate, so she begins to live two lives. Ultimately, she must choose between her perfect new world and the messy reality of life.

“A stunning debut in magical realism, reminiscent of The Bone Gap and the works of A.S. King. It’s dreamy, evocative, and wonderful. If you’re interested in self-actualization and the maddening drive to create art, all of this and more, you’ll find it in this stunning and original book.”
