FRUITS AND FLOWERS IN A TIPPLE AND ON A PLATTER
There’s a lot to be said for flavouring gin with hints of orange, lemon, spices, blossoms or even South African Rose (rumoured to have age defying properties).
It takes a genius to produce something that’s truly awesome and the gin flavours cooked up by hobbyists Matt Van Wyk and Albert Van Wyk are so brilliantly off the imagination scale they decided to set up a business…Ginologist Gins. Unsurprisingly Ginologist Spice, Citrus, and Floral Gins have scooped some of the top awards in the food and drinks industry including Silver at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Chief Distiller Pieter Carter also has a passion for alternative flavours and it was his recipe for Floral Gin and clotted cream ice cream that birthed a magnificent idea. Ginologist Gins invited their ‘Rainbow Nation’ chefs to invent recipes infused with the group’s three ‘Most Awarded Gins in South Africa’. The result? Every recipe in The Ginologist Cook has a gin infusion – including that legendary Rose Geranium (I can feel myself getting younger with every sip).
So, let’s choose a starter: Chilli Citrus Oysters, Citrus-Roasted Beetroot using Citrus Gin.
And what about the main course?
How about Garlic, Rosemary & Thyme Rubbed Lamb with Ginologist Floral Gin?
Finally dessert: Gin & Tonic Victoria Sponge, made even more marvellous with a generous splash of Spice Gin.
What’s not to like about 150 gin recipes and the offer of buying the book and bottle together?
Another win for South Africa…yum, yum, cheers, hic!
