The Last Witch of Scotland

Aila and her mother Janet move to the remote Scottish parish of Loth after her father is killed in a fire. The burns Aila sustained along with her mother’s mental health issues, make it difficult for the women to blend in with the local community. When a temporary minister is appointed to the area, the strange curiosity he develops for the women sets them even further apart from their neighbours. A welcome distraction arrives in the shape of a motley troupe of travelling entertainers from Edinburgh, led by the charismatic but mysterious Jack. Their arrival brings joy to Janet and a strange kind of hope to Aila that she hasn’t known since her father’s death. But in this small, tight community, faith is more powerful than truth while furtive whispers are more dangerous even than fire.
