The Mermaid and the Shoe

King Neptune has fifty mermaid daughters, and Minnow is one of them. Unlike the rest of Neptune’s brood she doesn’t have any skills or accomplishments…unless you think that asking lots of questions is an achievement: ‘Why don’t crabs have fins?’ ‘Where do bubbles go?’ ‘What lies beyond the kingdom?’ One day, Minnow is alone in the ocean when a woman’s shoe floats towards her. Never having seen a shoe before, she becomes enchanted with the object and its purpose. Nobody in Neptune’s kingdom knows what it’s for either, so she sets out on a journey to find out. Along the way, she discovers the answer to quite a few questions, including what her true purpose is.

“Normally people don’t put mermaids and shoes together, and that’s the magic of this story! It’s such a fun and whimsical tale that feels like a fairytale. It has a lovely message about the value of believing in yourself and the power of perseverance. Great educational read for little ones.”
