The Night of the Triffids

In John Wyndham’s classic The Day of the Triffids, the world is taken over by killer plants that nearly blinded the entire population. At the end of the book Bill Masen, a scientist and the story narrator, escapes with his wife and four-year-old son David to a small colony of survivors in the Isle of Wight. Simon Clark’s sequel picks up the story twenty-five years later. The survivors are safe, for the time being, where they combat the triffids and work on building a new civilisation. David, Bill’s now adult son, is a pilot searching for a way to destroy the triffid plants which are still trying to destroy humanity. David manages to reach New York, where a very different sort of colony has been set up, whose members appear immune to the triffid string and where David comes face to face with an old enemy from his father’s past.
