Unbroken: My story of survival from 7/7 Bombings to Paralympic success

Martine Wright’s life was irrevocably changed on the morning of July 7th, 2005. Boarding a London underground train during the morning rush hour, there was no reason for her to pay any attention to her fellow passengers, including 22-year Shehzad Tanweer. Barely a few minutes into the journey, the carriage was engulfed in chaos and carnage after Tanweer detonated a massive bomb that claimed the lives of 52 people. Martine was the last person to be pulled alive from the atrocity in what became known as the 7/7 bombings. She lost both of her legs, 80% of her blood, was in a coma for seven days, and underwent ten months of surgery. Amazingly, she survived her injuries and as part of her rehabilitation took up sitting volleyball (even though she had never seriously played sport before!), and would later represent Britain at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Unbroken is a phenomenal story of one woman’s courage and how she continues to change lives.
