The rich history of Oxford University Press can be traced back to the earliest days of printing. The first book printed in Oxford was in 1478, just two years after William Caxton set up the first printing press in England. The University was involved with several printers over the next century although it was in 1586 that a decree from the Star Chamber recognised Oxford’s right to print books. Over the centuries the OUP has undergone significant expansion and today, as the world’s largest university press, has offices in 50 countries.
