Founded in 1986, Serpent’s Tail was launched with a powerful mission: to introduce British readers to risk taking world literature that no-one else in the UK was publishing. The company acquired a reputation for its fearlessness and diversity of voice by publishing writers of colour from around the world and launching the careers of major authors including David Peace, Michel Houellebecq and Colm Tobin. It also turned the transgressive books The Sexual Life of Catherine M by Catherine Millet into best sellers. In 2007 Serpents Tail joined Profile Books, also independent, where it continues as an imprint that celebrates originality.

Juliette Foster is a journalist and co-founder of Read2Write. She wrote and illustrated her first novel when she was nine and although she doesn’t remember much about the story, the improbability of the plot was enough to make anyone who read it burst out laughing. Juliette’s ambition is to read every single book in her massive collection before her one hundredth birthday.
