THE HUNTER AND THE HUNTED
Who was behind the abduction of Mary Stephenson from a Kenyan safari camp? Are political militants to blame? Is her husband involved, or is she the innocent victim of a much bigger conspiracy? Hunting Ground, the fifth novel by British writer Val Harris, uses the wild Masai Mara plains and the dusty heat of Nairobi as the backdrop to a powerfully told story of envy, rage, and revenge. The culmination is an excellent plot twist that underscores the narrative message around the dangers of walking away from responsibility, and the consequences of retribution. They are classic literary themes skilfully re-worked for a twenty first century telling.
There’s plenty of drama and grittiness in this novel, making it a compelling and memorable read. Harris has an excellent eye for detail and a gift for portraying convincingly drawn characters. Some of the proceeds from Hunting Ground will go to East African Hunger Crisis.
