Merde at the Paris Olympics: Going for Pétanque Gold

Englishman Paul West lives in Paris where he’s gearing up for the 2024 Olympic Games. Short of cash, he accepts a job with a French group campaigning for pétanque – or boules – to be accepted as an official Olympic event. For Paul, there’s nothing particularly athletic about rolling a steel ball while drinking pastis in-between each target lob, but what the heck, as- long- as he gets paid, he doesn’t care and besides he’s got other things on his mind. For starters, he’s fallen in love with a French tech genius – who thinks he’s an idiot – and is tangling with his ex, the treacherous Elodie. Paul is also applying for French nationality, a process that would be straightforward but for the Napoleonic bureaucracy! Meanwhile, best mate and grunge poet Jake, decides the Olympics and Paralympics discriminate against the lazy, and he invents the “Nolymics”.  All this before the first of the 329 gold medals has been won!
