Godfrey Brandt

Godfrey Brandt was an academic, poet, writer, cultural commentator and playwright. He was a former lecturer and programme director at Birkbeck University of London (Arts Policy & Management), a former head of Education at the Arts Council, and Deputy Director General at the Commonwealth Institute and Director of Education. In 2016 he wrote the play Miss Eloise, which tells the story of a young woman living in 1950s Guyana. He wrote extensively for academic journals and his book The Realization of Anti Racist Teaching was recently brought back into print. Godfrey Brandt was the author of the poetry collection Madiba, which includes a tribute to the former South African President Nelson Mandela, and the anthology Streetwise. He published his first novel Trail of the Lost Jaguar in 2021. Godfrey Brandt died in January 2023.
